Volleyball
By: Breonna Lymuel and Heili Parada The CCI 7th/8th grade Lady Jags are having an awesome volleyball season so far. October 15 & October 26 are the next 8th grade home games. October 22 is the last 7th grade home game. The district tournament is October 31. The 7th grade girls are learning to play Volleyball and learning how to play as a team. 7th grader, Lauren Machula, 7A, said Volleyball is an aggressive sport which she plays at CCI and outside of school. Lauren said, “Volleyball is harder than I thought it would be because you are constantly learning new things and it’s fast paced.” She plays middle back which is passing the ball to the setter. She thinks the team has already improved this year because they are getting more serves over the net and they are working better as a team. Emma Sanders also plays on 7A. She said she never played before and she wanted to try it out. She also said whenever she is angry she can, “take it out on the ball.” Emma said, “Volleyball is definitely hard because she thought she was going to be just hitting the ball over the net but it is completely opposite.” Alli Davis, 7B, plays setter which means she gets to set the ball up so it can go over the net on the second to last hit. She said, “I like Volleyball because she can play volleyball with her friends and it builds character.” Nia Kollyade also plays on 7B. She said that, “Volleyball is something that she is good at. She also said that she like that it is physical and it is indoors. She said, “That she watches professional Volleyball but she doesn’t have a favorite player because she doesn’t watch it as much.” 8A Phoenix Felder said she likes that she can serve and she likes that she gets to spike. She said she practices volleyball every day. Phoenix said, “I know I have improved because I got a block during the second game we played.” Phoenix thinks boys would be good at volleyball because, “They have potential strength towards aggressive like sports.” Adrianna Aranzeta also plays on 8A. She said, “She likes volleyball because it is an active sport.” It’s fun and she enjoys playing it. She is a setter and she is also a team captain. She also said, “I like bumping and setting.” Adrianna said, “Boys should be able to play because everybody should try new things.” Anything guys can do girls can do better. Carlee Jackson, 8B, plays middle back which means she passes the ball to the setter. She said, “We improved tremendously because their older and practiced over the summer and some of them joined volleyball clubs to get better.” Lynndie San Miguel also plays on 8B. She said, “I like that it is physical and competitive.” She also said, “I have improved by hitting the ball and talking to my team.” Lynndie said, “I wanted to try out for volleyball this year because I didn’t play last year.” Come out and support our Lady Jags on Thursdays! |
Football
7th Grade By: Hailey McDonald This year’s 7th grade Dark/Light football teams are working hard! Although they haven’t won every game, they are still very competitive and still putting all their effort into their team! Most of the football players on both teams have experience playing before. Lots of the player love tackling and passing the ball to each other when practicing. Coach Poston said, “The team’s strengths would have to be how hard they work together as a team.” He also stated that, “The team’s weaknesses would have to be the number of players that come to practices.” Quarterback, # 11, Isaiah Diaz said he has improved, “by passing the ball to the receiver.” Strong safety, # 22, Milton Blanco said he has improved his tackling and blocking the other team from getting the football. 8th Grade An Inside Look at the 8th Grade Teams By: Cindy Artola This year, 8th grade CCI football consists of 8th Dark and 8th Light. Alex Chacon said, “I like the contact.” My favorite part of the game is, “The team and how everyone works together. It’s like a family,” said Brady Raboin. Maybe to you football looks fun and not hard at all, but in reality it takes a lot of practice. “We need to work together more,” said Adrian Lopez. These players stay after school approximately 1 hour and 40 mins to practice for the games, which are every Wednesday. So, with so much work, they need someone to cheer and inspire them to keep going if they feel like they can’t go any further. “My parents cheer me on because they push me to try harder,” said Liam Gunter. Coach Adams said, “The hardest thing to teach football players is responsibility.” The record for 8 Light is 0-4 and 1-3 for 8 Dark. There are 4 games left. Players can improve by coming to practice and working as a team. See you at the games on Wednesdays! Cheer By: Reagan Begnaud Cheer is a program where you can encourage the football team and get to know other girls with the same interests as you. 8th grade teacher Mr. Kirkland (cheer leading coach) said, ‘’I did cheer when I was in school and I really enjoyed it. I want to help girls build their confidence.” 7th grade cheerleader Amber Menefee said, “I choose to do cheer because I do competitive cheerleading and I want to support my school.” 8th grade cheerleader Alexis Akers said she does cheer because, ‘’it’s fun and a workout.” 7th and 8th grade cheerleaders said Mr. Kirkland is a good coach because, “He pushes us to do our best.” Last year only 8th graders could be on the cheer team. Now 7th and 8th graders can be on the team. Mr. Kirkland said they did this because, “I got tired of building a different team every year.” Kirkland said he’ll coach the team next year. Alexis Akers said, “I like going to all the football games.” Amber and Alexis said their favorite stunt was ‘’The Jaguar’’. |
