Sing Your Way Into Choir By: Arrington Linder Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be in choir? In the Sixth Grade Beginner Choir everyone is excited about their first choir concert! Evan Edgar loves the Canoe song because it’s, “Really fun to sing.” Peyton Primeax loves Take Me Out To The Ball Game because they, “Get to sing it at a Rockets game!” In the Concert Choir, they are busy practicing for their concert on Thursday at 7pm. Jaquayla Davis loves Momoshikaya because, “It sounds really good.” Tyler Magee loves the song Guatarmera because it, “Goes from Spanish to English.” In Symphonic Choir everyone is getting ready and prepping for their concert on Thursday at 7. Alexa Akers loves the song Festive Gloria because, “It is really exciting to sing.” Lucian Jurnalov loves the song Baba Yetu because it is, “In a different language and sounds unique.” Be sure to tune in for more news soon and go to the Symphonic Girls/Guys and the Concert Girls/Guys Concert on Thursday October 8th, at 7:30 pm and the Beginner concert at 6! Band By: Colin Sills 6th Grade - Fundamentals of Band Arianna Ramirez is a 6th grader and it’s her first year here at CCI. She plays the flute because, “It has a beautiful sound.” She doesn’t have a favorite band, but she loves pop music. She doesn’t know which band she will be in next year but said, “I’ll be good by then.” Concert Band Patrick McDonald is a 8th grader here at CCI. He plays percussion in the concert band. He likes rock music, but he doesn’t listen to professionals. He thinks he is ready for a concert and he is already planning to be in band in high school. Symphonic Band Ana-Lisa Elterisy is a 7th grader and it’s her second year here at CCI. She’s in band and plays percussion. Her favorite band is Arctic Monkeys. She likes them for the sound they make. She likes all types of music but, it depends on her mood. She said, “I am ready for a concert.” She is calm and confident. She will stay in band next year. She said, “I feel good and can play good.” The Director Mr. Stuart is the new band director here at CCI. He loves to teach and has been teaching for 5 years. He likes Maroon 5. He used to teach at Weiym, Texas. His favorite genre of music is classic and he plays the french horn. Orchestra Learn About the Students in Orchestra By: Elise Mathews Orchestra is an elective that anyone can choose. Ms. Dupere is the teacher, and the instruments you can choose from are following: violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Aram Nicholes, a sixth grader in Beginner Violin, chose to play the violin because he had some past experience with it. He does not play any other instruments. His favorite string is, “The A string because it is always used for tuning.” Aram’s favorite part of Orchestra is, “Ms. Dupere, because she is very kind.” He had a playing test on October 1st over a song called Lightly Row. His favorite speed to play is at Moderato. Lillian Garcia (better known as Lilly), is a seventh grade student in the Philharmonic Orchestra. She plays the violin. When asked what her favorite speed, style, and volume to play, she replied with, “Allegro, because it can be challenging, staccato, because you can play them faster than longer notes, and Mezzo Forte because it is easiest to play.” She prefers to play with the bow rather than plucking, because plucking hurts her finger. Her favorite piece to play is Viking Ships of Old, because it has a dark tone and it is loud. Georgia Smith, an eighth grader in the Symphony Orchestra, said she felt anxious when she tried out for Symphony. She thinks Symphony can be a bit challenging at times. She plays the viola. She likes to play forte. Her favortite speed to play is, “Moderato, because if you go too slow, it`s boring. If you play too fast, your chances to mess up are higher than if you play moderato.” Her favorite piece is Spartacus, because she likes the way it sounds. If you want to know more about Orchestra, go ask Ms. Dupere or one of the Orchestra students. Art By Jerrold Ament Have you ever wondered what our artists at CCI are doing or making? Tristan Lacy, 7th grader, 2D/3D Art joined Art because, “Just getting to draw peacefully and quietly is awesome." Angelymarie Abreu, 6th grader who is in Intro to Art, Angelymarie joined Art because when she was little, she enjoyed art and felt an inspiration, as she got older she grew a passion and decided to join Art at CCI. Angelymarie said that 6th grade/Intro to Art are currently making paper windmills. Angelymarie said, “I like the colors blue and purple and use them to make rainbows and to decorate my artwork. Angelymarie said that her favorite project that she did in art so far was when she got to decorate here notebook by making a picture of a tower and putting her name and picture on it. Angelymarie said her favorite artist is, “Leonardo de Vinci I like his art but I don’t remember its name.” Tristan Lacy, 7th grader who is in 2D/3D Art, Tristan said that the 2D/3D Art class is currently drawing silhouettes of different animals. Tristan Lacy said, “My favorite color to use is red. Basically I use red very carefully and if I think it needs to be darker I’ll add more to it.” Tristan said that his favorite project that he did was when he drew fruit by drawing 3D fruit bowls. Tristan said his favorite artist is, “Leonardo de Vinci and my favorite artwork made by him is the Mona Lisa.” Ethan Burt, 7th grader who is in Advanced Art, Ethan joined Art because when doing his art his peers liked his art and suggested he join Art. Ethan said that the Advanced Art class is currently drawing items in different colors. Ethan said, “I like to use the color blue in my art by using it for curves in my artwork.” Ethan said his favorite project that he did was his sketchbook cover by making a background with his picture on it. Ethan said his favorite artist is, “Claude Alnet and my favorite artwork made from him is “Starry Night”. Theater Arts By: Drake Human Intro Theater Arts is about plays and learning the history of acting. Theater Arts students work on reading scripts and making and presenting stages. Recently the Intro Classes presented model stages that the students built. For an example someone made an arena (like the coliseum) a proscenium (like our stage) and a thrust (like a runway). They are currently working on stage direction. Production class just finished presenting “How to Get Away from A Zombie”. |
Robotics
By: Daqari Tuckson Have you ever wondered what the CCI 8th graders are doing in Robotics? Ryan Hotard said, “Robotics is a class about engineering. I like the really cool projects Mr. Moreno gives us.” Robotics is a class where you can be creative and make creations. “Robotics is the best because it is fun and a easy class,” said Christian Pratt. Robotics is a course that helps you learn engineering. Ursula Sanchez said, “I like Robotics because I get to learn new things.” Mr. Moereno said, “In Robotics we are handing out building kits and beginning to build robots.” Are you wondering how Robotics can help you in real world? Mr. Moreno said, “It helps you with your problem solving.” That’s something that can come in handy out in the world. Computer Applications By: Sean Tran Computer Applications is a class about creating a four year plan for high school and much more. Mr. Plaisted is the teacher of the class and manages this extremely important class. The class name may be deceiving because this class mainly is a planning class! Mr. Plaisted even said, “This class is actually not mainly about computer skills.” Gage Anderson said, “No they don’t teach specific computer skills.” Many people wonder why Computer Apps is required to take. Amanda Gumban said, “It really helps you find a career path.” Mr. Plaisted said, ”It’s required by law.” Students will also learn self-control by not fidgeting and moving in class to how to do interviews and resumes. People enjoy this class because they enjoy learning and exploring and preparing for later in life. Mr. Plaisted said, “You will enjoy this class because it requires a lot of thinking.” So if you are thinking about Computer Applications, take it from the students they find it fun and sometimes very useful and you will too! Culinary Arts "Where the magic happens" By: Emely Gonzalez Have you ever wondered what Culinary Art students do? Did you think that the only thing they do is bake and cook? You’re wrong. They do more than that. They have to take tests just like every other class, but the fun part is that they get to cook and eat the stuff that they make. Katerine Varela said, “I picked this class because I’m interested in cooking.” Katerine’s favorite thing to cook is cookies. She has baked a cake before she’s excited to cook in class. The person that inspires Katerine is her mom because she likes to watch her cook. Myanna Smith said, “I like the class and we get to cook deserts” Her favorite activity to do is bake cookies. At home, Mayanna makes spaghetti. She is really excited to bake pies. The person that inspires Myanna is her mom because she provides for her. Jada Williams said “To learn how to cook.” Has picked Culinary Arts. Jada wants to make ribs. She has made a cake at home. Jada is excited to try new foods. She is best at making soul food. She likes cooking because she likes food. The person that inspires her is her grandma because she cooks for the whole family. The Culinary Arts teacher said that the next thing the will be doing is chop stuff and mixing stuff. That’s what the students do in Culinary Arts. That’s where all the magic happens. Journalism By: Gia Bishop Are you looking for an elective that is super fun and involves you in the yearbook? Well, Journalism is just right for you! In this amazing elective you are able to write articles about people and things going on in CCI, take pictures, interview students and staff, and most importantly be a part of making the school yearbook! 7th grader Valerie Garza is in Journalism for the first time this year and she wanted to take it because, “I like writing a lot, I somewhat like taking photos, and I really like the class.” She loves the class so far, but she thinks she isn’t responsible enough to keep up with all the work. 8th grader Madison Plotner is in Journalism for her second year in a row. She loves designing the yearbook. “My favorite part in journalism is designing the yearbook, the whole set-up, choosing the cover, etc…” She also loves getting to test everything out before there’s a final copy done. She would also like to add a special page. “I would add a page for people who don’t do any sports or popular electives so the spotlight can be on them for once,” Madison said. So if you’re looking for an elective that involves writing, designing, and a little hard work this is the perfect elective for you! Spanish Te Gusta el Espanol ? By: Jake Singleton Spanish this year seems to be very popular, 8th grader Tyler Cornor said his favorite part about Spanish is that there are no worksheets and that he is glad because there is no handwriting. He also said he has used Spanish in the real world several times in South Padre Island and many Mexican restaurants. Tyler also said Spanish would be extremely useful if he was lost and stranded in Mexico or other Southern American countries, He also sees himself being in a Spanish career field as a translator. Grace Smith (7th grade) said, “The most useful sentence I have learned is Cuál es tu número de teléfono," which means what is your phone number. “She said her favorite part about Spanish is that she can be bi-lingual and she likes that because she can have more use of language and can travel to more diverse places. She says she chose Spanish because she can explore new places which she thinks is a good thing to experience but currently has not used any Spanish in the real world. Even though she plans to travel the world she said “Spanish will be useful because we live in Texas and it’s more popular here.” Gracie says she will be learning Spanish until she becomes fluent. So if you are thinking about taking Spanish, take it from these students, they find it as a fun and very useful class and you will too. LDC Life and Relationships What’s up with Life and Relationships? By: Sarah Burris In Life and Relationships you learn how to set goals, make decisions for yourself and make plans for yourself in high school, college, and for the rest of your life. “So far my favorite part of Life and Relationships is getting to plan ahead, or at least get an idea of what we want our future to be like.” Said Aubry Chambers, Life and Relationships is mainly about finding yourself and what you want to do with your future and your current life. This elective really helps you whenever it comes to decision making and goals. It makes your options easier and helps you understand the outcome of some of your choices later on in life. “It will help me make good choices in high school, and I will try to get far after college,” Said Caleb Connor. You also learn about ways to control your stress. You learn how to make reasonable decisions, and you also choose how to eliminate your choices to choose the best one for you. “I knew that Life and Relationships would help me set goals and make choices so that is why I chose Life and Relationships,” said Emily Stafford. |
